Professor Graham Welch
Graham Welch completed his undergraduate (Certificate of Education, BEd (Hons)), graduate (MA - Music Education) and post-graduate education (Education, Psychology of Music) at the University of London and was awarded a Personal Chair in Music Education at the Roehampton Institute London (University of Surrey) in 1993. His career has encompassed teaching and Deputy Head positions at primary schools, Principal Lecturer and Course Director at Bristol Polytechnic, and Dean of Education of the Faculty of Education Roehampton Institute London, where he is now Director of Educational Research and Pro-Dean, and Director of the Centre for Advanced Studies in Music Education. He has held positions as Associate Editor for Voice (Journal of the British Voice Association) and Logopedics Phoniatrics Vocology, and is an editorial board member of the journals Innovation and Learning in Education, and Research Studies in Music Education. Currently he is the representative for UK and Africa on the International Society for Music Education (ISME) Research Commission. Professor Welch's current research includes: the direction of the project Singing Development in Early Childhood; the investigation of music education for children and young people with disabilities; the development and use of computer-assisted visual feedback systems in young children's musical development; the implementation of the European Dimension in UK Initial Teacher Education; and mapping the range of South Asian musical culture in the UK (with Dr Gerry Farrell and Dr Steve Stanton, City University). He has conducted numerous consultancies in teacher education, music education, voice education, and art education, and is the author/editor of 4 books, over 20 chapters in books, and over 60 articles in learned and professional journals.
