The intended outcomes of the project are

1. To establish linkages (if any) between

  • Teacher style
  • Pupil type
  • Patterns of school/home-based ICT use/online learning, and
  • Student learning outcomes

2. To show the relationship (if any) between

  • Stages of ICT integration in the primary classroom
  • And Student learning outcomes

3. To identify & develop some relevant theory, that is, a set of well founded principles in relation to the incorporation of ICt into class programs

  • Establish the basis of the theory
  • Understand its limitations
  • Understand it implications

4. Undertake some related action research to investigate (and demonstrate) the potential use of the theory in future situations and developments

  • To better inform our actions, choices and problem solving in relation to using ICT in classrooms
  • To provide a sound basis for
    • analysis ( and assessment & evaluation)
    • design
    • development
    • and implementation
  • To enhance the use of online learning in primary classes

Initial Classroom Observations

Observation Tool

Expected outcome

Galton: series of activity observations of

8 pre-selected students

and the class teacher

Placement of teacher on Galton’s teaching style scale

Placement of students on Galton’s pupil types scale

Measurement of interaction levels

Measurement of levels of cognitive engagement

Task Design, Execution and Evaluation

Mapping the type and extent of ICT use (including online) and its distribution in the class

Individual Online Tasks

Exploratory: looks at the way students say they go about using the computer for specific exercises, how they construct knowledge and develop skills with and through the ICT medium

Interviews (with teacher, principal and targeted students)

Placement of teacher on Apple scale of ICT adoption & home computer attitude scale.

Student Computer Use Survey

Comparative measurement of home and school computer use.
