It is common for classes to make special arrangements so that individuals
and/or groups can have access to computers. Such arrangements
include
- scheduling groups to ICT on particular days to ensure equity of access
- sequencing students to use the computers as the preceding students
complete their tasks
- sending off groups to resource teachers or aides (when the resource
teacher or aide is available)
- placing students with visitors as the opportunity arises, eg, parents or
senior students are available to assist
Consider the following in-class situation...
While the class does aerobics... |
'William' has his turn on the computer!! |
The prime reasons for special arrangements include
- access to limited ICT resources (eg, only 2 or 3 computers)
- access to support
- a desire to maximise students experience of using and operating ICT
(typically 2-4% of class time for most students)
- not enough opportunities (occasions)
Thus the use of ICT can place children 'outside the class' and often
does and is disruptive to their participation in the class program.
