A third kind of alignment involves alignment of the key educational components

  • values and purposes
  • curriculum
  • (action) learning
  • outcomes, and
  • pedagogy

In this sense pedagogy can be understood as a kind of 'technology' of teaching and learning. Embedded in pedagogical tasks are techniques that may support the endeavours of both teachers and learners

The above diagram shows the relationship between technology and pedagogy

  • technology can reshape the learning activities by changing what is feasible

  • pedagogy designs/selects the activities that are desirable and feasible

  • the purposes and the curriculum may also be changed by what is feasible

The starting point for the discussion that follows is the notion of action learning as developed by Prof Reg Revans
