Teaching and learning processes are made up of activities. (See also Teaching, Action learning and Pedagogy)

Thus the issues of governance, infrastructure, staff competence, and the nature of classes all contribute to the range and success (or otherwise) of (teaching and learning) activities.

Technology is used in activities. New technology can change the way in which an activity is carried out and/or make new activities possible (see Technology).

The use of technology to assist in teaching (scaffolding and mediation) and directly by the learner undertaking learning activities depends on the

  • availability of the technology,
  • user access
  • the reliability of the technology
  • and the working knowledge of the users which will enable them to operate and troubleshoot the technology in use.

Activities result in products, experiences and knowledge. As part of action learning insightful questioning by learners may enable them to

  • utilise existing 'programmed' knowledge and
  • draw new knowledge from the experiences involved.

In addition the products of the learning activities may be useful for new purposes and for other audiences such as other members of the school community (see Seaton's Curriculum Forms
