Observation Subjects

Students: 8 children selected by the class teacher in Grade 3 or Grade 5, a boy and a girl from each quartile in terms of general performance using the following guidelines:

  1. The most capable (in an overall sense) boy and girl
  2. The least capable (in an overall sense) boy and girl
  3. A boy and a girl a bit above average: doing OK most of the time,
  4. A boy and a girl a bit below average: sort of doing OK but who sometimes requires a bit of extra effort on the part of the student and/or teacher to ensure that things go well for these two.

There is no need to take the student’s interest in ICT (or lack thereof) into consideration.

The teacher’s categorisation of each student will not be revealed to the observer until after all observations are completed.

[NB.  Students will be asked to keep a diary/log (provided by the observer) of their computer use in the week before the classroom observations.]
