Curriculum

This software package falls into the Kito mode of Independent learning.

Level 1 (grade 1-2). The outcomes are that a student uses computer software to support learning in literacy, numeracy and problem solving.

It rill mainly be used in the English section of the nationally developed cuuriculum. Some of the outcomes are that children will be able to recognise sounds such as 'ou' , ed, oo.

students will understand compound words such as: sunset, milkshake.

Off-computer activities

The basic activities would be the worksheetes which are available with the software package. They can work on these without the aid of a computer.

Some other activities are the drill methods of spelling lists, test.

The younger children could be given sheets with pictures on it, and asked to circle the ones with sounds such as 'ow'. The pictures could include a cow, owl etc.

Computer based activities

The computer based activities include the worksheets. The teacher must be aware of the contents of the spelling lists so that each student does work according to his/her ability.

The software package has many build in activities which are easily accessed by the child itself. That is why it is such a great package for independent learning.

Classroom management

The teacher must be able to keep an eye on which student has done what activity. The software package however has a wonderful inbuild record keeping sytem of the results the children are achieving. The teacher is also able to set up its own classroom list. Every child should be allowed to access this package for at least 15 minutes at a time. That is why the teacher will need to keep an accurate record as to who has done what.

Evaluation strategies

The worksheets could be handed in to the teacher, to mark. Also the build in record keeping of points achieved at which game will keep the teacher up dated as to where a child may have a problem.
