RELEVANT TECHNOLOGY OUTCOMES/OBJECTIVES 1.1 Investigates the form and identifies the uses of everyday products. Explore, utilise and identify the use of the computer at a basic level for research.

RELEVANT SCIENCE OUTCOMES/OBJECTIVES 1.15 Talks about observations and suggests possible interpretations. Contributes to class discussion about what they have researched by using information from their investigations and research to answer questions.

PRIOR KNOWLEDGE Students have been undertaking a unit on animals. Students have had previous experience at a basic level on using the computer. Students have been shown how to access the program Dangerous Creatures and all students have had time spent exploring the program and the various options available.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT There are only two computers in the classroom and the students will be required to work in pairs for this learning experience. So there will be four students at one time on the computers while the other students can utilise books and magazines. The students will also be required to log in and out of the computers so that their time spent on the computers is regulated and noted. The students will be allocated a time limit of 30 mins each session and they will be given the opportunity to revisit the program as many times as required. As this is an early childhood class, the students are only beginning to learn and develop their skills on the computer and therefore emphasis has been on using their mouse control skills as well as utilising the computer as a resource for research.

LEARNING EXPERIENCE COMPUTER BASED In pairs the students will be required to access the multi media program Dangerous Creatures and select an animal or insect in order to research and find out all they can about their particular animal. Each pair will be given a worksheet to complete. The worksheet will have three questions that they will be required to answer. Question 1 = Where does the animal live Question 2 = What does the animal eat Question 3 = What does the animal look like (as in features). The answers to these questions can be recorded by the students in written form or by pictorial form.

OFF COMPUTER Students will be required to further research their animal through the use of books and magazines from the school library. When all students have been given the opportunity to complete their worksheet, they will be required to share their worksheet with the whole class and they may be able to answer any questions that the other students may have pertaining to their animal.

EVALUATION FORMATIVE Evaluation will occur formatively during the learning experiences by observing the students, listening to their conversations amongst each other and by questioning the students throughout.

SUMMATIVE Evaluation will occur through satisfaction of the students completed worksheet which will indicate both knowledge of the subject matter and the use of the multi media program.

Evaluation will also occur on whether or not the learning objectives were met by recording the students participation and achievement level. as each of the students abilities differs, a record sheet monitoring their achievements will be kept and updated continually so that both students and parents can view their progress.
