Accessing Server from a Apple Macintosh Computer
Access server account remotely from Windows Computer
To access your files remotely please follow the instructions below. Please note that we do not provide
support for computers other than those owned by the Faculty.
Procedure
Step 1 - Please note this method only works with a Windows PC running Internet
Explorer version 5.0 or later. If you are using netscape please
open up Internet Explorer (usually locate on the desktop or
the blue "e" next to the start menu.) Once open
please select one of the following two links:
NOTE: THERE IS A BUG IN INTERNET EXPLORER THAT MEANS YOU WILL NEED TO PRESS THE GREEN REFRESH BUTTON WHEN YOU SEE THE ERROR MESSAGE WHEN YOU CLICK THE FOLLOWING LINK:
Students - click on the following link: ftp://edunhmfs2.educ.utas.edu.au
Staff - use this link in stead: ftp://edunhmfs1.educ.utas.edu.au
Step 2 - When prompted enter your Education username
and password. This must be typed in the format "Education\Username" as shown below
If you do not get prompted for this please type in the following
URL in your browser window (making sure you substitute your Education username and password where mentioned in the link:
Students use: ftp://education\USERNAME:PASSWORD@edunhmfs2.educ.utas.edu.au
Staff members use: ftp://education\USERNAME:PASSWORD@edunhmfs1.educ.utas.edu.au
Example ftp://education\jbloggs:sqwerty@edunhmfs1.educ.utas.edu.au
Troubleshooting tip #1: In Internet Explorer go into Tools
> Internet Options > Advanced. Make sure that "Enable
folder view for FTP sites" has a cross in the box.
Troubleshooting tip #2: In Internet Explorer go into Tools > Internet Options > Advanced. You can also use "Enable Passive FTP" if you still can not see your files
WWW Folders
WWW publishing can be accessed at the following locations:
Students WWW- click on the following link: ftp://edunhmfs2.educ.utas.edu.au/../www/
Staff WWW- use this link in stead: ftp://edunhmfs1.educ.utas.edu.au/../www/
You will only be able to access your own username from the list when it appears. Note this may take some time on slower connections.
Access server account remotely from Mac
To access your files remotely please follow the instructions below. Please note that we do not provide
support for computers other than those owned by the Faculty.
Procedure
Step 1: Close or minimise any visible windows and click on the “Go” menu and select “connect to server”

Step 2: For students type in “ftp://edunhmfs2.educ.utas.edu.au” or for staff type in “ftp://edunhmfs1.educ.utas.edu.au”
Step 3: When asked type in your EDUCATION username and password then click connect.

Done! You will find a new icon on your desktop containing all of the staff accounts. You will be able to access your Private folder this way.
Once you have finished simply click and drag the icon to the trash and release the mouse button
