WELCOME

The Memorial project has been designed to heighten individual and community awareness of the annual global extinction rate. It is a worldwide collaborative project that will involve many people in creating an artwork. The artwork will provide a physical and visual reminder of the estimated 27,000 species of plants and animals lost forever through extinction each year.

You are invited to participate by cutting out a shape from a 5cm x 5cm piece of paper to commemorate the loss of a species and sending it to us. Your contribution will be placed in a pocket of the artwork.

You may also like to participate as a school or community group by:

  • cutting out shapes;
  • contributing information to the website; or
  • exhibiting the Memorial project in a local exhibition venue.

It is our hope that participation in the Memorial project will foster a deeper understanding of the fragility of living entities and a greater concern for the biodiversity that we have inherited. We hope that participating in the Memorial Project by contributing a shape, or viewing the final artwork, will generate an increased sense of urgency to care for and nurture our fragile planet, upon which all life depends.
